Not only is it against the law, but it\u2019s frowned upon in American society, not to mention extremely dangerous.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Au Pair USA wants everyone to be safe and has a zero-tolerance policy for drinking and driving.&nbsp;<strong>Never drive a car after drinking, even if you\u2019ve only had one sip of alcohol<\/strong>!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you\u2019re caught drinking and driving, either by the police or your host family, the following could happen:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Arrest by the police<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Receive an expensive ticket from the police and have to go to court<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Cancellation of your visa<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ending of your au pair program early<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Having to pay for your own return flight home<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Inability to enter the U.S. in the future<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Causing damage to your host family\u2019s or another driver\u2019s car<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Inconveniencing your host family and causing them financial stress<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Hurting yourself or someone else<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Avoiding drinking and driving is easy, as long as you have a plan. Stay safe by:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Having a designated driver &#8211; a friend who will not drink any alcohol and will drive you home<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Calling a taxi or a rideshare service, like <a href=\"http:\/\/www.uber.com\">Uber<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lyft.com\/\">Lyft<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Taking public transportation<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Calling your host parents or someone who can come pick you up. (it\u2019s better to ask for help than to get in trouble with the law)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Not drinking<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Drinking laws and cultures are different all around the world. Here are a few tips about consuming alcohol in the U.S.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The legal drinking age is 21 years old. Do not drink if you\u2019re under 21.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If you\u2019re 21 or older, do not buy alcohol for someone younger than you.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Alcoholic drinks cannot be inside your car. You must keep them in the trunk, and they shouldn\u2019t be opened already.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In most places, it is illegal to consume alcohol in the street or other public places that are not designated otherwise.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If you want to drink at a park or the beach, check the local laws. It may not be allowed.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Don\u2019t get into the car with a driver that has been drinking.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If you\u2019re 21 or older, ask your host family about their policy on drinking alcohol in their home.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Remember, as an au pair you are a role model for your host kids. Your behavior may have a big influence on their lives. Your host family cares about you and doesn&#8217;t want anything bad to happen to you. One small decision can negatively affect you for the rest of your life. Don\u2019t drink and drive!
